We thank you for your letter of the 30th inst., to hand this morning which has had our most careful attention.
The question of the differences between analyses made in China and those made here on Chinese Tin is a matter which has for some time engaged our serious attention. We have given a good deal of thought to the matter and have had many discussions with people interested, as well as correspondence. We have also carried out a certain amount of research work here to endeavour to ascertain the reasons for the differences.
It will certainly be a pleasure to us to meet Mr. Branson and to take the opportunity his presence in this Country affords to examine together the problems presented in this question of Chinese Tin. It will not only be extremely interesting but we hope will lead to good results with a consequent minimizing and, if possible, eliminating the troubles that have been occurring.
We venture to enclose herewith copy of a letter we have today addressed to Mr. Branson which we trust will be found in accordance with the wishes of the Secretary of State.
