But
the complete work of building and furnishing the new Trade
School. It will be seen that this figure reveals a saving
of $25,500 compared with the revised Public Works Department's
estimate given above and I am advised that this saving is
due to the reasonableness of the tender of the Association
which may thus be regarded as having implemented its promise
of support for the scheme.
3. It is regretted that the full extent of the
saving envisaged in the third paragraph of Sir William Peel's
despatch No.444 of 10th August, 1934, has not been in fact
attained but in the circumstances I do not regard a saving
of over $25,000 as unsatisfactory.
4.
Further expenditure estimated at $60,000 spread
over three years, is necessary for the provision of machinery and equipment and for the complete work therefore of building, furnishing and equipping the Trade School a total cost of $256,500 is arrived at, which is within the amount inserted
in the first instance in the 1935 Estimates Head 34 sub-head
8 for the work of construction and furnishing alone.
5. It is proposed to make provision in the 1936 Estimates for the following items under Head 25:-
Personal Emoluments (Hong Kong $ = ls/8d.)
