Your telegram No.83. Macao. On 10th April
attention of Portuguese Chargé d'Affaires in London was
orally called to proposed transactions, and hope was expressed
that the project, if it proved to be a serious one, would be
nipped in the bud, On 12th April Chargé d'Affaires stated
that Portuguese Government had "called to themselves" the
matter in order that it might be studied in Lisbon. It is
understood that Portuguese Government have suspended all
further action pending an examination of the whole question,
and that Governor of Macao has no power to carry out
transaction without approval from Lisbon.
