commercial relations with South China. Much stress is
now laid on the importance of this rapprochement.
Possibly as the first-fruits of the discussions at this
year's assembly, a visit of inspection by a party of
twenty-two Chinese from Foochow officials and business
men interested in technical reconstruction work of
various kinds was organised in November, its members
being most lavishly entertained by their Japanese hosts.
The visitors carefully disclaimed any political
significance for their trip. It is reported that members
of the Foochow party were so impressed by what they were
shown, and so pleased with their reception, that a
similar tour is being planned from Amoy in the near
future.
