With reference to Foreign Office letter
No.F.2190/694/10 dated 13th April and previous
correspondence relating to the "piracy" of the S.S.
TUNG CHOW, I am commanded by My Lords Commissioners
of the Admiralty to acquaint you, for the information
of the Secretary of State for the Colonies, that,
arising out of the reports received in connection with
this piracy, They have had under consideration the
possibility of reinforcing the measures at present
taken to combat piracy off the China Coast. In the
view of Their Lordships, it would be advantageous if
the various questions at issue could be further
discussed by a small interdepartmental conference on
which the departments primarily concerned were
represented.
2. I am accordingly to request that if this
suggestion commends itself to the Secretary of State
he will nominate representatives accordingly.
3. Their Lordships propose that the first
meeting of the committee should be held, if possible,
towards the end of this week and, upon learning the
names of the representatives, They will cause a
