INTARIN REPORT
REPORT ON THE PIRACY OF S3. "TUNGCHOW" PAGE 2.
92
On 4th February I called at the Customs House to thank them for their co-operation. They assured me of their readiness to do all in their power to assist on such occasions.
9. About 2330 on 1st February, Mr. Blackwood of Butterfield and Swires informed me they held guarantees of all Chinese passengers on board "Tungchow" and these being serially numbered, it would enable them to trace the guarantors if those of passengers remaining on board were checked. This message was passed to Commodore, Hong Kong for Butterfield and Swires at Hong Kong and for the Police (my 2335/2).
10. From the result of this check, Mr. Blackwood was able to inform me on 4th February the names the suspected pirates had booked under. This information was signalled to Commodore, Hong Kong (my 1140/4).
11.
The information in Commodore, Hong Kong's signal 1755/3, that the No.1 Compradore was not onboard during the trip is being followed up, but hitherto has not yielded any result.
12.
As reported in my 1040/4, the Consul General, Shanghai, 18 instituting an enquiry into the Piracy and has invited my collaboration. This is being accorded.
I have the honour to be,
sir,
Your obedient Servant,
(Sgd) N. V. Grace.
COMMANDER. R.N.
SENIOR NAVAL OFFICER, SHANGHAI.
