I have the honour to refer to Mr. (now Sir

W.T.) Southorn's despatch No.294 of 1st June, 1928, which contains some account of the progress of the Permanent Cemetery for Chinese since its inception in 1912.

Negotiations have for some time been in progress for the appropriation of an area in an accessible situation in the New Territories for a similar purpose. I

attach a copy of the Rules made by the Board of Management concerned in January 1933 in which such an extension of their activities is contemplated even though the word "Aberdeen"

is retained in the preamble.

I also enclose a plan showing an area

coloured pink proposed for this purpose, which is in my opinion sufficiently remote from any possible development. It is about twenty-six acres in extent, and its value is roughly $2,900.00.

The promoters of the present proposal have undertaken at their own expense to arrange privately with the owners of certain lots within the area and others having interests therein to surrender these, after which, if you

approve, an appropriation would be made. The promoters have also undertaken to bear the cost of laying out and making the
