Mr. Gent.
A
Herewith Mr. Burney's revised report, which You
will remember he undertook to re-consider in the
light of a talk he had with us. It would obviously
be impossible now to ask him to make any further
revision and accordingly I have only glanced at it
here and there. As he had no opportunity of
speaking at the Advisory Committee meeting yesterday
the question of further consideration of the report
does not seem to arise at this stage.
I understand that the intention now is to send
out one copy of the report to the Hong Kong Govern-
ment and to refer the report as a whole simultaneously
to the Advisory Committee. The next meeting of the
Committee is on 20th June and members would, I know,
like to have copies of the report as long as possible
before the meeting as its perusal will take some
time. The sooner, therefore, it can be sent for
roneo-ing, or such reproduction as you think most
convenient, the better. The consent of the
Chairman of the Advisory Committee to its being
placed before the Committee will, ofcourse, be re-
quired but this might perhaps be done after other
arrangements have been made, since it may safely be
assumed that that consent will be given.
The report has not been signed. Mr. Burney
said that he would send a covering letter and possi-
bly has sent it to you. I suggest that he might be
asked to sign two of the copies which are now to be
made, one for the Hong Kong Government and one for
record in the C.0.
Meanwhile as he handed the
report in person to me we can safely assume that it
is his work.
