Enclosure in Canton despatch to Peking No.86 of 26th June 1934.
CHINESE SEAMEN'S UNION
CANTON 5th June, 1934.
The Manager,
Butterfield & Swire,
CANTON.
Dear Sir,
We regret very much to have to inform you that we
have decided to replace the Boatswain and the No.1 Fireman
of s.s "Shantung" who have been continually violating the
rules and regulations of our Union despite serious warnings
being given them every time they committed an offence. Such
a procedure on our part without first informing you might cause
serious interruption to the regular operation of your ships,
which we, in our present desire for mutual co-operation, wish
very much to avoid. It is therefore, to your advantage if
you will instruct the Boatswain and the No.1 Firemen to see
us immediately the s.s "Shantung" arrives in port.
Trusting that you will give this matter your
immediate attention.
We beg to remain
Dear Sir,
Yours faithfully,
(Signed) Leung Kwok Ying
Chairman.
