With reference to correspondence on the
subject of the Seamen's Union resting with Sir Thomas
Southorn's Confidential letter No.19 of 24th April,
1934, I have the honour to forward a copy of a petition
received, with translation, from certain persons in
this Colony.
2. It will be observed that the names of the
signatories mostly correspond with certain names in Mr.
Kan Chieh-hou's letter to you dated 19th December, 1933,
a copy of which accompanied your letter No.94 of 22nd
December, 1933.
3. It is presumed that the terms of my letter
of 24th April were as requested communicated to Mr. Kan,
and I have instructed the Secretary for Chinese Affairs
to notify the petitioners of the position taken up by
this Government.
4. As there would appear from the tone of the
petition to be some possible misapprehension as to the
outcome of Mr. Kan's representations I shall be glad if
His Britannic Majesty's Consul General,
