Call on the 12th

February, when enquiry was made as to the attitude of His

Majesty's Government towards the export of arms to Chine,

I have the honour to inform you that no final decision hes

yet been renched in the matter. Simultaneously with His

Majesty's Anbossador's note of the 3rd August 1934, to which

M. Cambon referred, enquiries vere addressed to the Belgian,

Italian, United States, Czechoslovakian, Japanese, Swedish,

Spanish, Sviss, Polish, Danish and Norwegian Governments.

The replics elicited are summarised below for the information

of the French Government; the majority, as Your Excellency

will observe, indicated regular compliance with the regulations

of the Chinese Government.

The Italian, United States, Ovedish, Opanish and

Danish Governmenta stated unequivocally that the export of

arna to China vao only permitted in accordance with the

Chinese Coveraent's regulations. The Norwegian Government

stated that urns had never buen exported to China from Norway

but added that if such export took place it would only be

permitted if the Chinone Government'e reguletions were

adhered to. The Czechoslovakian Government replied that

licences were only issued for the export of arms to Chine

on production of an authorisation issued by the Chinese

Government or the Chinese Tegation in Prague.
