Brazilian revolution of 1930 and 1932.
During the Brazilian revolution of 1930 the
Brazilian Ambassador called at the Foreign Office and
enquired as to the truth of a statement in the press to the effect that His Majesty's Government had declared their intention not to allow the export of war material to the rebels. He was informed that no application for the export of arms had been received from any unauthorised authority in Brazil and it was explained to him that the normal practice in the Department was only to agree to licences being issued for arms ordered by the established government of the country or its authorised representatives.
8. On October 3rd, 1932, the Imperial Chemical
Industries Metals, Ltd., applied, through the Board of Trade, for a licence to export machine gun and rifle
cartridges to the State of Sao Paulo. It was recommended to
the Board of Trade that permission for the issue of the licence should be suspended until the situation in the
State, arising out of the revolution, had been finally
elucidated.
