The excess on this sub-head is due to the more frequent conveyance of Ambulances on the Vehicular Ferries and to travelling expenses incur- red by one Station Officer and one Assistant Engineer who reside in Kowloon Stations but are also on duty daily at Hong Kong Station.
A supplementary vote of $500 is requested.

In the 1934 Estimates provision of salaries for European officers were only made for Messrs. W. SCHOFIELD, E. I. WYNNE-JONES and H. OWEN DAVIES.
Owing to the following changes of personnel in this department, the amount provided in the Estimates is insufficient :-
(1) Mr. E. W. HAMILTON appointed as First Magistrate during the
absence of Mr. W. SCHOFIELD on long leave.
(2) Mr. S. F. BALFOUR appointed Second Magistrate in place of Mr. WYNNE-JONES who was transferred to Kowloon Magis- tracy on 11th October, 1933.
(3) Mr. Q. A. A. MACFADYEN appointed Second Magistrate in place of Mr. S. F. BALFOUR who went on long leave on 1st April, 1934.
(4) Mr. W. M. THOMSON appointed First Clerk and Magistrate on 1st February, 1934, in place of Mr. H. OWEN DAVIES, S. C. and A. Staff.
