Provision made in Estimates (page 88 sub-head 1) ...§ 12,401

Provision was made in the Estimates for two shipkeeper instructors at a commencing salary of $2,400 p. a. each.

It was found impossible to obtain suitable officers at that salary and the Secretary of State's approval to recruit two officers at fixed salaries of $3,600 and $3,000 per annum was sought and obtained.

A supplementary vote of $1,800, being the difference between $4,800 provided and $6,600 required, is accordingly requested.

5.-34, Public Works Extraordinary :-New Kowloon. Port Works. Raising level of causeway to Kowloon City Pier

Under Head 34, S.H. 89, $3,000 was approved in the 1934 Estimates for raising the level of the causeway to the Kowloon City Pier. The work was completed in September last, leaving an unexpended balance of $1,763.66.

A sum of $200, representing retention money, is payable after the expiration of the maintenance period of six months. To meet this require- ment in 1935, a re-vote of $200 is requested.
