The Gestetner machine at present in use has become unserviceable and is beyond economic repair. It is necessary to purchase a new machine and as this expenditure could not be foreseen a supplementary vote for $750 is requested.

3.-27, Defence A.-Volunteer Defence Corps :-Field Training Ex- penses for Voluntary Aid Detachment of Hong Kong Volunteer Defence Corps

A sum of $900 was approved by supplementary vote for this Detach- ment in 1934 but owing to its very recent formation no provision could be made in the 1935 Estimates and a supplementary vote of $400 for field training expenses during 1935 is requested.

4.-34, Public Works Extraordinary :-Hong Kong. General Works. Drainage-10 (a) Training Nullahs

By the conditions of sale of Inland Lots Nos. 3685 and 3686 (Blue Pool Road, Wongneichung) the training of the nullah on the east side of the lots and its branches from the west is to be carried out by the Director of Public Works. Towards the cost of sewer extension and nullah training the owner's contribution of $6,000 under the conditions of sale has already been paid and expended since the development of the lots commenced last
autumn.
It is necessary to complete the training of a section of the main nullah before the commencement of the rainy season for the protection both of these lots and of other property in the vicinity. The estimated cost of the work is $12,000 of which only $2,000 is available from the vote of $5,000. A supplementary vote of $10,000 is therefore requested.
A portion of this expenditure will be recovered as adjacent lots are sold.
