His Excellency the Governor has the honour to present for the consideration of the Finance Committee of the Legislative Council the items (Nos. 146 to 148 of 1934 and No. 2 to 4 of 1935) of supplementary expenditure set out below.

Items the cost of which can be met wholly or in part by Savings from other sub-leads of the head are marked with an asterisk (*). The source and extent of the Savings will be found in the explanation
of the individual items.
Owing to an under estimate of the amount required to cover expendi- ture to the end of 1934, it is requested that a further sum of $6 be approved. During the month of December an exceptional number of meals was supplied to prisoners.
The above is to be met from savings under Rations for Indian Police (1934 Estimates page 46 sub-head 23.)

A sum of $1,689 payable to the War Department on account of Ordnance charges for the camp in 1933 was not paid until 1934 involving an over expenditure during the year of $1,151, whereas a sum of $1,042 lapsed during 1933. A supplementary vote for $1,151 is requested.
The above is to be met from savings under sub-head 3 (1934 Estimates page 86 sub-head 3).

Provision of $17,143 was made in the 1934 Estimates for the recondi- tioning of one Locomotive Boiler in England.
Owing to the running of additional trains, it was essential that a further locomotive boiler should be sent home for reconditioning.
The contract price for reconditioning two boilers was £1,704.10.0. which plus cost of freight and other home charges amounts to $28,015.53.
A supplementary vote for $10,873 to cover the excess is requested.
