Sir,

GOVERNMENT HOUSE,

HONG KONG,

19th November, 1935.

31

With reference to Mr. H. L. Smith's despatch No.521 of 13th September, 1935, regarding the Government House and City Development Scheme Ordinance, 1934, I have the honour to request your approval, in accordance with Section 4 (1) of that Ordinance, of additional expenditure during the current year of $9,500 on Government House, Approach Road.

2.

Certain unforeseen expenditure was incurred in repairing damage done by rainstorms and it was considered desirable to undertake this year part of the work of surfacing the road in view of the decision not to proceed with the scheme during 1936.

3. The total estimated cost of the Approach Road, $120,000, will not be exceeded, but the additional expenditure this year will be met by a corresponding reduction in the balance which will be required in a later year, as indicated in Appendix VII of the draft Estimates for 1936.

4. It is requested that I may receive your authority by telegraph for this expenditure, subject to the approval of the Legislative Council which will be sought by resolution at the next meeting of the Council.

THE RIGHT HONOURABLE

MALCOLM MACDONALD, 1.P.,

&C.,

&C.,

I have the honour to be,

Sir,

Your most obedient, humble servant,

No.d. Southothy.

Officer Administering the Government.
