I attach opposite a note on the main stages

leading up to the Air Ministry's demand to be

provided with land for R. A. F. purposes free of charge.

The areas concerned are the extensions of

the aerodrome at Kai Tak, a new operational aerodrome

at Pat Heung at present under construction, and the

projected aerodrome at Ha Tsuen. The history of the

Kai Tak site is summarised in Mr. Gent's minute of

18/4/34 on 31703/13A/34 General.

Discussions have

arisen over the addition to the original site of

ground for an Officers' Mess and the "triangular site";

and more recently of the extension which was under-

taken by the Hong Kong Government last winter on the

understanding that the Air Ministry would contribute

half of the cost.

Correspondence about the Pat Heung site

commenced with the Air Ministry letter, No. 13 on

53514/35. The Hong Kong Government were authorised

to commence work there on an undertaking being

received from the Air Ministry to refund the cost of

forming and resuming, the general terms of transfer
