I beg to forward for your Excellency's informa-

tion a copy of my letter of this date to the Minister of

Railways on the subject of a serious encroachment upon the

land of the Canton Kowloon Railway by the Military Engineer-

ing Department.

I am informed that the Engineer-in-Chief of the

Railway has already made a confidential report on this

matter to H.B.M. Consul-General at Canton, and I beg to

request that Your Excellency will be good enough to in-

struct the latter to support our protest against the tres-

pass upon property of the Railway, and the contemplate^

action by the Military Department, by representations to

the Provincial Government, in the event of the further

prosecution of the apparent intention to make use of the

bridges of the Railway for the passage of road vehicles.

I have the honour to be,

sir,

Your obedient Servant,

(san)

BASIL T.B. BOOTHBY.
