With reference to my letter of the 18th July
1935, stating that representations were being made
to the Chinese Governsent regarding the defaults in
the service of the Canton-Kowloon Ra:lway Loan of
1907, I am directed to inform you that a reply has
now been rɛceived from the Vai Chimo Pu dated 15th
August 1955 transmitting a statement from the Mini-
stry of Railways, to whoa the matter was referred, to
the following effecti-
As regards the principal and interest payable on
the Canton-Kowloon Railway, the Railway owing
to shortage of revenues is not able to meet the
payments, the finances of this Ministry are also
in a difficult state, and there is no other source
of revZYLL from which payment can be made instead ;
