Dear Sir,
With reference to your letter under date the 1st January 1935, addressed to Mr. A.G. Piovanelli, the Manager of the Hong- Kong Hotel, I am pleased to inform you that I am in a position to offer you employment with the above-named Company in the capacity of Maître d'Hôtel, upon the following terms and conditions.

This Company to furnish you with a 2nd class passage to Hong- Kong by a steamer of the Messageries Maritimes. You to re- fund the cost of such passage to the Company by instalments of $50.- ( (dollars fifty) effected by deduction from your sa- lary.
Your alary to be at the rate of $200.- (Hongkong dollars two hundred) per month, plus board and lodging.
3. Your engagement to be for a probationary period of 6 months.
Thereafter should your services be considered satisfactory and retained by the Company, the continuation of your employ- ment to be subject to termination by three months notice in writing on either side. This Company reserves the right to terminate your services upon the payment of the equivalent of three months salary in lieu of notice.

In no event whatsoever, whether in lieu of notice or other- wise, will you be entitled to compensation in respect of the board and accommodation provided you as above-mentioned.

In the event of termination of your employment being effected by the Company, in accordance with paragraph 3 above, the Company reserves the right to make deduction from any sum due to you of an amount the equivalent of passage money not paid by you, and you on your part undertake in the event of tender- ing your resignation from the Company to effect full reim- bursement of such unpaid passage monies.
It is a condition precedent to this engagement that no res- ponsibility rests with the Company for your repatriation to France in the event of cessation of your employment by what- ever means effected.
If you are willing to accept employment with this Com- pany upon the terms above outlined, please cale as follows -

and in that event arrangements will be effected through the local office of Thos. Cook & Son Ltd. to furnish you with transporta- tion 2nd class Messageries Maritimes, Marseilles to Hongkong.
