We beg to acknowledge receipt of your letter of

yesterday, transmitting a copy of a telegram sent to the

Governor of Hong Kong on the subject of a further respite

of sentence in this Case.

2.

The Privy Council have notified us that the

Petition for special leave to appeal will be heard at 10.30

a.m. on Tuesday next the 19th instant, and we have no power

to postpone the hearing.

3.

The Petitioner having served Notice of his intention

to apply to the Privy Council on the Attorney-General of Hong

Kong, was in a position to proceed with this Case without

serving us with the Petition had he so desired. His Solici-

tors have no doubt arranged with the Registrar for a speedy

hearing of the application, and we are unable to defer it.
