especially low in recognition of the fact that connection

by other services would be involved to complete the

journey to Hong Kong.

6. The annual joint mail payment in which the

scheme would involve the Malayan Postal administrations

would be £17,000, but it is assumed that this sum would

be partly offset by surcharge payments in respect of air

mail of foreign destination amounting to approximately

£1,000 per annum.

The joint subsidy contribution which it is hoped

that the Malayan Governments would be prepared to make

to the scheme is £15,000 per annum. This sum has been

assessed on the assumption that the local authorities

would be prepared to continue to accept responsibility for the ground organisation within their territories and

to accord to the Company or Companies operating the

trunk services freedom from customs duties on fuel and

oil imported for use on those services and allowances in

lieu of free housing and landing facilities.

6. The joint annual mail payment in which the

scheme would involve the Postal Administration of Kenya, Uganda and Tanganyika Territory on this basis would be £11,000, but it is assumed that this sun would be partly

offset by surcharge payments in respect of air mail of foreign destination amounting to approximately £3,000

per annum.
