On 20th July between 11 p.m. and midnight he came to Tabernacle. He carried a leather bag (Ext.15) and wore a white topee (Ex.16) He said he was going to Canton next morning and asked if he might stay the night.
I gave permission.
I left him and went to bed.
Next morning he was gone but the bag (Ex.15) and the topee (Fxt.16) were still there.
I handed them over to Insp.Dorling.

Married woman living on ground floor of 211 Lai Chi Kok Road. On night of 20th July I was sleeping in rear cubicle.
I was awakened by the smashing of glass.
I shouted out "What's the matter" twice.
Soneone replied "Fire on the second floor).
I can't say if it was a man's or a woman's voice.
I can't say where the voice came from.
I switched on the light and went out and looked up to see if there was fire.
I went into iai Chi Kok Road.
I saw no sign of any firs.
I reported to police constable who went in to investigate.
I diân't go round to the back of the premises.
Next morning later the oaie morning -ű baw the bamboo fenoe between 211 and 213. I noticed that the fence was slightly bent and 1 saw a rope hanging down from the roof of the house. The fence was alright the night before.

Two panes in the window opening into the yard from my cubicle were brosen.
The rope was not far away from the window.
