GOVERNMENT HOUSE,

HONG KONG,

[1] in

Sir,

With reference to my despatch No.307 of

29th May, 1933, forwarding a report by Mr. George White, 33 Principal of the Junior Technical School, regarding

Trade Schools of Malaya with reference to the institution

of a similar school in Hong Kong, I have the honour to

inform you that the matter has been further investigated

and that concrete proposals have now been put forward

which will, it is hoped, enable the construction of a

building to house the projected Trade School to be

undertaken in 1935.

2.

The matter has been discussed by Mr. White

with representatives of the local Building Contractors

Association, and, at a meeting at which Mr. White was

present, it was agreed that an offer of assistance in

the erection of the building should be made by the Association which has undertaken to carry out the work

in return for the net cost to their members without any allowance for profits, and to provide building materials on the same terms, and, to some extent, free labour.

3.

Working drawings have not yet been prepared and it is therefore not yet possible to quote a final estimate, but the maximum cost has been put provisionally

SIR P. CUNLIFFE-LISTER, G.B.E., M.C., M.P..
