Addressed to Department of Overseas Trade repeated to
Peking, Nanking, Commercial Counsellor and Shanghai.
Governor of Hong Kong proposes to appoint me a member
of a commission under Chairmanship of a Hong Kong Governm nt
official to enquiry into causes and effects of present trade
depression in Hong Kong and to make recommendations for
amelioration of any existing difficulties and for improvement
of trade of Colony.
I have accepted subject to your approval and informed
Governor that in view of service of Trade Commissioner in
Singapore on similar commission I anticipate no objection.
I should be grateful for early reply and in due course any
instructions you may desire to give me.
