250. (d) Dragon's Back Catchwater:--First Section.—A contract for this work was let on the 21st February to Messrs. Yee Lee & Co. for $105,715.00. Good progress was made with the works during the first half of the year when the greater part of the catchwater was of soft section, but progress was consider- ably slower during the latter months when more rock was en- countered. By the end of the year approximately 7,000 linear feet of catchwater had been completed, leaving 1,270 to be constructed.

251. (a) Concrete Post and Barbed Wire Fence.-A contract for this work was let at the beginning of September for $1,499.25 and was nearing completion at the end of the year.

252. (b) Erection of Penfold Type Chain Link Fence (6′-0′′ high). A contract for this work was let at the beginning of December for $1,053.32 but little progress was made. materials for the fence were delivered in the Colony during De- cember.

253. (c) Raising and Regrading Western Portion of Aero- drome. A contract for this work was let at the end of November for $28,900.00 but very little progress was made.

254. (d) Slipway for Civil Aviation.-A contract for this work was let at the beginning of November for $86,222.50 and good progress was made with the necessary dredging work. About 10,000 cubic yards of material were dredged.

VEHICULAR FERRY PIER SCHEME.

255. This work was referred to in paragraph 218 of last year's Report. The piers, offices and concourse areas on both sides of the harbour were completed and an experimental vehicular service commenced on 9th February. The full service was com- menced on 12th June. Certain fender strengthening works were carried out during the remaining portion of the year.
