Destroyers.
(Q) How could our Destroyer co-operate.
(A)
As soon as information was received a Destroyer
could probably proceed to the place at which
the pirates were landing.
It is possible that a quick following up of pirates
by troops might lead to some result.

Colonel Leung stated that they feared that pirates
were liable to come into our territory when being pursued by
their troops.
(a) If this occurred, could they follow into our
territory.
I gave no direct answer to this question, but
pointed out that it was a matter for our police to tackle
pirates once they had crossed into our territory, and Hong
Kong authorities must be consulted.
(b)
They asked to establish Detection Service
at:
Hong Kong
Shanghai
Macao
Swa tow
To assist in detection of pirates at these
ports.
The Consul General pointed out that there was
already a close liaison between the police forces of Hong
Kong and Canton. Perhaps this matter could be brought to
the notice of the Hong Kong Police Authorities.

I asked if they had any Aircraft available for
this work. They said "No", but I don't think they really
knew. Anyhow they were asked to look into this matter, for
as I pointed out this was probably the quickest means of
meeting the pirates.
