With reference to my despatch No.198 Chgreference to

of the 24th March, 1934, I have the honour to report

that I have granted to the Honourable Mr. J.J. Paterson, member of the Legislative Council, one year's leave of

absence from the Colony as from the 12th April last,

and that I have appointed Mr. William Henry Bell,

General Manager in Hong Kong of the Asiatic Petroleum

Company, Limited, provisionally and subject to His Majesty's pleasure, to be temporarily an unofficial

member of the Council during his absence. Mr. Bell's

appointment to temporary membership of the Legislative Council on previous occasions was reported in Sir

(11) in $2722/31 William Peel's despatches No. 248 of the 20th May,

(8) m 92568/32 1931, and No. 197 of the 15th April, 1932.

A copy of the instrument appointing Mr.

Bell is enclosed.

In accordance with Colonial Regulation

175 I enclose also a list of the present members of

the Legislative Council.
