With reference to your telegrams No.66 dated
X
11th August, 1933, and No.37 dated 26th April, 1933, on 92640 32 the subject of wireless telephone and telegraph services
HK.
in Hong Kong, I have the honour to inform you that this
Government has now completed its preliminary exploration
into the question of establishing wireless telephonic
circuits with Manila and Shanghai.
2.
The present position is that the Chinese
wireless telephonic installations at Shanghai have not yet
advanced very far beyond the experimental stage although
there are prospects of early expansion, but that through
the Manila installations Hong Kong, with the equipment
now indented for, would be in telephonic communication
with all parts of the world.
3.
In the circumstances I consider it imperative
that this Colony should receive the benefits of the
wireless telephone at the earliest possible moment.
4.
While no official communications have been
exchanged on this subject, Mr. Riddle, Superintendent of
the Radio Corporation of America in Manila has tentatively
suggested that a rate of thirty gold francs for every
three minutes might be appropriate, while Dr. Wen, Director
of the China Government Radio Administration in Shanghai
