With reference to your Confidential
despatch of 13th February, 1934, on the subject of the
establishment of the General Post Office I have the
honour to inform you that the matter has been carefully
reconsidered in the light of the observations contained
in that despatch.

The proposals set out in my Confidential
despatch of 4th December, 1933, were put forward in order
to meet the situation which would arise in the event of

the retirement or absence of Mr. Hynes, Superintendent
of Mails, and represented the views of the acting Post-

The Postmaster General, Mr. M.J. Breen,
has now reviewed the position and is of the opinion that
the situation does not at present warrant any alteration
in the establishment of the Post Office.

The Estimates for 1934 provide for six
supervisory officers in charge of the collection and
distribution of correspondence at the General Post Office,
of whom four draw sterling salaries:-
