for the maintenance work in a Junior Technical School, and make light

metal work in the final year a possibility.

Laborator.

It is proposed to equip the laboratory for work in Engineering Science up to the level of the Ordinary National Certificate in England. It is proposed to spread the expenditure over three years should the students progress sufficiently quickly. This equipment, with certain additions, would be very suitable for "part time" work

during at least the first two years of apprenticeship. Provision will

also be made for the supply of essential pieces of apparatus to the Mechanics Classes of the Technical Institute.

Demonstration Equipment:-

Since the classes in "Technical English" will deal with the

parts of various machines, their names and functions, it is essential

to the practical teaching of the subject that actual machines should

be available for demonstration purposes.

It is not contemplated that the engines, etc., should ever be

run, so that condemned machinery will be very suitable, provided it

is not too obsolete in pattern. A start has been made by the acquisi- tion of a motor car engine from the Sanitary Department, and it is

hoped that in course of time a small vertical steam engine and a

small electric motor will be available.

It will probably be possible to add small items from time to

time until a representative collection of machine parts will be

assembled.

It is contemplated that models for Building Construction

classes will be obtained at a later date.

Library: -

The Board of Education (England) has laid it down that the

provision of a suitable library is essential to the running of a

Technical School, and has, on occasions, described a library of

200 volumes as inadequate.
