With reference to your despatch No.143 of the 18th
May, 1932, on the subject of the establishment of a Junior
Technical School in Hong Kong, I have the honour to request
your covering authority for the expenditure of $28,000 for the
erection, fitting and furnishing of a two storey building at
the School, to accommodate a laboratory and two classrooms.
In view of the urgent need of the laboratory I have
authorized the work to proceed in anticipation of your approval
and it is hoped that the new building ill be completed and
that the laboratory will be ready for use before the commencement
of the September term. The two classrooms are not so urgent,
but as the numbers attending the School increase they will be
required within the next year or two. It is more economical
both in money and space to erect now one two storey building to
meet both these needs than to erect two single storey buildings
in successive or nearly successive years.
The matter has
been referred to the Finance Committee and received their
unanimous approval. On receipt of your reply a formal vote
will be taken in the Legislative Council.
