I have the honour to request your covering

authority for the sale by private treaty to the St.John

Ambulance Brigade of an area of land, shown coloured red

on the attached plan and measuring about 16,000 square feet,

on the island of Cheung Chau, for the purposes of a

hospital, Crown Rent to be the nominal sum of $1 per annum

for so long as the lot is used for a hospital or similar

In other respects the terms and conditions of

purposes.

sale are the usual ones and include inter alia premium

at the rate of two cents per square foot plus 50% for sale

by private treaty and a building covenant of $20,000.

A Mr. Au Poon Ho has promised to defray the expenses of

erection and furnishing, and the Brigade will supply a

resident doctor and a staff of Chinese nurses and bear the

maintenance charges, with the assistance of voluntary

contributions from the inhabitants of Cheung Chau, who are

strongly in favour of the scheme. The Hospital will meet

a long felt need for this important fishing village.
