£155 per annum from Nigerian funds and understands that,
in the event of his engagement, no abatement of his pension
would be involved. If selected, he proposes that his wife
should accompany him to Hong Kong at his own expense. He
is prepared to sail on the steamer of the 2nd February, if
necessary, provided that he receives early advice of his
appointment.
4. We are communicating with other retrenched
officers, with a view tosecuring further candidates for the
remaining vacancies. In the meantime, I have to enquire
whether it is desired that we should proceed with the
engagement of Mr. Hobbs.
