[n=6]
I have the honour to refer to your letter
No. 13850/33 of the 29th November and enclosures, on the
subject of the appointment of three Architects and two
Overseers for service in the Public Works Department,
Hong Kong, and to state that particulars of the former
appointment were sent to 12 officers retrenched from the
Colonial Service, with a view to ascertaining whether they
wished to be considered, but that only five applications
have been received in response.
2. Mr. C.C.A. Hobbs, F.R. I.B.A., late Architect,
Public Works Department, Nigeria, has applied for the post
of Architect and we recommend that he should be offered
engagement for the first of the three vacancies. He has
been interviewed by us and is considered to be well
qualified for the appointment.
From the information
available, it would appear that he holds higher architectural
qualifications than Mr. Hollingsworth Bond, the local
candidate who has been temporarily engaged.
3. Mr. Hobbs, who is 42 and married, has passed
the medical examination and is prepared to accept engagement
upon the terms given in the paper of particulars of the
appointment. He is in receipt of a pension at the rate of
