GOVERNMENT HOUSE.
HONG KONG. 14th February, 1933.
Encl.Nos.1 & 2.
Sir,
I have the honour to request your
covering authority for the grant to the Secretary
for Chinese Affairs Incorporated of an area of
land at Aberdeen as shown on the attached plan and
subject to the attached conditions for the purposes
of a temple.
2.
There has been for many years a temple on
this area, which was formerly Aberdeen Village Lot
No.20. The tenants, three persons chosen to
represent the Aberdeen Kaifong, had all died by
1920. The Crown Rent of two dollars a year had
since been paid by the Kaifong, though they were
under no legal liability to do so. In order to
regularise the position, it was decided, with the
concurrence of the Kaifong, that there should be a
default in payment of Crown Rent, that the Crown
should thereupon re-enter upon the lot and make a
fresh grant of it to the Secretary for Chinese
Affairs Incorporated.
The lot has now been re-
entered upon and as the Kaifong are anxious to
proceed at an early date with a new building, I have
THE RIGHT HONOURABLE
SIR P. CUNLIFFE-LISTER, G.B.E., M.C., M.P.,
