Sir,

With reference to War Office letter of the 20th

November, 1929, No. 16/Estimates/439 (F.1.) and to Colonial Office reply No. 2761/30 dated 30th January, 1930, on the subject of the Military Contribution payable by the Colony of Hong Kong, I am commanded by the Army Council to inform you that no statement showing the revenue of the Colony as finally assessed for Military Contribution together with details of the items deducted from the gross revenue appears to have been received from your Department of late years.

In view of the recent agreement to treat exceptionally a number of additional items of the revenue of Hong Kong the Council consider it desirable that the statements referred to above should be again rendered to them regularly in future as soon as possible after the completion of the account for the Colony's financial year, and I am accordingly to request that the requisite statement in respect of the Colonial year 932 may be furnished at an early date.

In this connection I am to say that the Council would be glad if Secretary Sir Philip Cunliffe Lister will arrange for similar statements to be furnished regularly in respect of Mauritius, Ceylon and Straits Settlements. It will be convenient if all the statements can be supplied in the same form and the Council suggest that that furnished by the Government of the Straits Settlements is most suitable, (see e.g. Straits Settlements Council paper No.53 of 1931 a copy of which was enclosed with Colonial Office letter No. 92064/32 of 1st March, 1932).
