3 in 2892/1927.
(COPY).
(Enclosure No.2.)
Sir,
6th May, 1927.
28
With reference to my letter No.3 in 2892/1927
of 1st March and to your No.13358/11 (Q) of 4th March, 1927,
I am directed to enclose for your information a list of
Government properties and lands in Hong Kong, Kowloon and
the New Territories, and to state that the rental assessed
on a conservative basis, and exclusive of certain small
items still under investigation, would amount to $19,443.00
per month. I am however to state that, in view of the
desire of this Colony to assist His Majesty's Government
to the utmost of its power, the Colonial Government, in
spite of the present financial stringency, is prepared
to reconsider its previous decision and to forego its
claim to this rental entirely, on the understanding that any out-of-pocket expenses to which it may be put, will
be refunded and that the leased property will be recon-
ditioned to the satisfaction of this Government at the
expense of the Military Authorities on the termination
of the tenancies.
I am, Sir,
Your obedient servant,
(sd). E.W. Hamilton,
p. Colonial Secretary.
The Deputy Assistant Adjutant,
and Quartermaster General, Headquarters, South China Command,
HONG KONG.
