Wuchow, June 18.
Two days ago, Wuchow's flood commenced to pass into history. Fortunately for the city, the heavy rains of the previous days ceased, and only local rains fell. In twenty-four hours, the water gauge recorded a drop of over ten feet. To-day the reading is below 40 feet, which is a drop of more than twenty feet in less than sixty hours. It is rumoured that large dyke near Shiuhing broke, flooding vast areas in Shiuhing hsien. Daily showers continue in the afternoon, but unless unex- pected heavy rains occur in the interior, the West River has pass- ed the crisis of damaging flood waters.
