MUI TSAI CASE.

Employer Fined On Two Charges.

ORDER TO PAY WAGES.

Appearing at the Central Magis. tracy yesterday on behalf of Wong- Mong-shan, summoned for failing to notify the S.C.A. of her change of address and failing to pay wages to her registered mui tsai, Mr. J. B. Prentis pleaded guilty to a technical offence.

Mr. Prentis said that the mui tsai was a clanswoman of defen- dant. He did not know exactly what relationship it was in English, but defendant was a step- the daughter of the mui tsai's aunt. is It was something similar to a first led cousin.

Inspector H. W. Fraser said the girl was a registered mui tsai. She reported on June 8 that she h been assaulted by her employer, who threw the contents of a spit- toon over her. Inquiries. were made, and it was found that the girl had not been visited, as the defendant had changed her ad- dress. It was also found that the girl had not been paid her wages. of She was entitled to two years' vil

wages at $1 per month, and to another one year and 25 days' wages at $1.50 a month, the total ith being $43.25. The girl had a cane mark on the right cheek, which ilt she said had been caused by her by employer striking her. From all 00) appearances, however, the girl had r's. been well nourished.
