SHING MUN VALLEY SCHEME. FIRST SECTION,

It is proposed to spend $66,398 in 1933. Of this sum $56,398 is for the Service Reservoir which is being constructed below ground level in the Botanical Gardens. The contract for this work expires on 16th March, 1933, but it is anticipated that major works will be completed by the end of this year leaving certain ancillary works and the re- storation of the gardens to be completed in 1933. The balance of $10,000 is for com- pletion of the 24" pipe line to connect this reservoir to the cross harbour pipe. This expenditure will complete what is known as the First Section of the Shing Mun Valley Scheme and will add five million gallons of filtered water to the existing Service Reservoir storage capacity of Victoria.

ABERDEEN VALLEY WATER SCHEME.

$265,000 is provided for the completion of the East Catchwater, Second Section and West Catchwater, Second Section, which combined will provide a drainage area of 397 acres, the construction of the Access Road to the lower Dam, and the widening of the existing Paper Works nullah. It is expected that the whole scheme will be completed by the end of 1933 and that the amount shewn against the following year will only be required for contingencies and retention money.

SHING MUN VALLEY SCHEME SECOND SECTION.

PRELIMINARY WORKS:--

The sum of $10,000 is provided for any further ground surveys, borings and small contingencies found necessary.

GORGE DAM:--

$1,525,000 is the original estimate of expenditure furnished in 1931 by the Consult- ing Engineers for that portion of the work to be carried out in 1933 and the amount now provided may require revision on the arrival of the Resident Engineer.

TYTAM TUK CATCHWATERS.

As Tytam Tuk Reservoir is at present short of Catchment Area it is proposed to increase it by the construction of Tytam Tuk (East) Catchwater, Dragon's Back Catch- These catchwaters water, Mount Pottinger Catchwater and Mount Parker Catchwater.

will add 1,380 acres to the indirect catchment area of Tytam Tuk Reservoir.

The sum of $300,000 has been provided in 1933 for the construction of the Tytam Tuk (East) Catchwater and the first section of the Dragon's Back Catchwater, while it is hoped to commence the other two catchwaters by the end of the year.

VEHICULAR FERRY PIERS.

$170,000 has been provided for the layout of parking areas, ricksha shelters and latrines at the Jordan Road and Jubilee Street termini, payment of Crown Agents account for the supply of machinery, and retention money. It is anticipated that the piers will be completed ready for operation of the Ferry Service not later than February, and that the subsidiary work at the terminals will be completed early thereafter.
