undue familiarity with Fung but she succeeded in allaying his
suspicions. So matters carried on until February last when
the climax came. On the 21st February, 1932, the girl was at
Repulse Bay Hotel and while she was there an amah from 50 Village Road arrived with a message, in consequence of which she hurriedly left the "otel in accused's larger car, a
Studebaker. She came back by the Wongnoichong Sap and on the
way down the hill she met the accused driving in his Au st în
Seven Car No.4. The two cars stopped, accused got out, came
across and accused her of treachery ani ingratitude, he stripped
her of her jewellery and then proceeded with her in the car back
to No.50 Village Road.
There he appears to have became exceedingly angry, then,
after further recriminations, he struck her on several occasions
and told her to leave the house.
This, further evidence will
show, was a usual lovers' threat and was not seriously meant.
The next morning (22. 2. 32) lai did leave R0.50 and threw in
her lot with Fung, who took rooms for her and her mother and two
cousins from Shanghai in the Nathan Hotel, Kowloon. That the
statement of the accused that he did not want her was not really
meant was clearly s own by an incident at the Hong Kong Hotel a few days after. She arranged by telephone to meet him there to
hand over the rest of the jewellry he had given her, and having handed over she asked him to let bye-goneu be bye-gones and leave
her alone in future. The answer she got to that request was "I will never let you two live happily together;
"I will spend all my money in preventingit".
At this time, as you will learn later, the plot which
ended in Furg's death had already been hutched. lai and accused
