The Assistant Attorney-General (Mr. R.E. Lind well):

May it please your lordship and the Jury - About 6,30 p.m. on the 24th March last the deceased, George Fung, or Fung Him, his Chinese name, a member of a well-known long long family,

left the hours of a friend at 14 Shan Kwong Road, the road that runs straight up from the Race Course at Happy Valley to the new Jockey Club Stables, in company with a young woman named lai Ming Fai with whom he was living at the time in Kowloon.

The two walked down the road towards the Race Course

and before they had gone one hundred yards George Fung had been shot in the back at very close range by a hired assassin, by name, Fong Nam Sheung. This man had followed the two down from

above number 14 and fired the fatal shot at the corner of Yick

Yam Street, which is the corner of the first street on the left as you go up Shan Kwong itond from the Valley.

The bullet passed direct through George Fung'a body

from back to front, penetauting the lung and cutting a heart muscle, with the result that he died about half an hour later in

the Yeung Yo Nursing Home which is close by.

The case for the Crown will be that the commission of this cowardly and dastardly murder was rocured by the accused out of revenge. For two years the girl, lai ling Fai, had lived almost continuously under his protection as his affianced wife, but a year previously she had fallen in love with the deceased and finally, on February 22nd last, after a violent quarrel with the accused on account of George Fung, she left the accused and threw in her lot with George Fung, with whan not very many days later she was living in a Fowloon Hotel as his wife. It will be the Crown case that from the moment of her so leaving
