CHENG KWOK YAU v THE KING
We act as Solicitors for the Petitioner in this
matter and have received instructions from Hongkong to apply
for leave to appeal to the Privy Council against the Judgment and sentence of death passed on ChengKwok Yau which has been
respited to the 14th December 1932.
We are enclosing the Petition which has been lodged
at the Privy Council and we have also served a copy on Messrs
Burchells, Solicitors for the Colonial Office.
In view of the near approach of the 14th December
and the possibility of the application not being heard before the 14th December 1932, we respectfully suggest that a communi- cation should be sent to Hong Kong by the Colonial Office sugges t-
ing that the sentence should be further respited at all events until after the application for special leave to appeal has been
heard.
The Petition has been settled by Sir William Jowitt
K.C. K. C. and Mr H.J. Douglas.
Needless to say the matter is extremely urgent and we
should be glad if you would kindly deal with it quite promptly
We are,
Your obedient servants.
Gibson Weldon
The Under Secretary
for the Colonies.
Colonial Office.
