I have the honour to address you on the subject

of dredging in the vicinity of the Hong Kong and Kowloon

Wharf and Godown Company's piers on the western side of

Kowloon Point. The area in question forms part of that which was dredged in 1927/1928, in which connection please

see Mr. Amery's Confidential telegrams of the 9th and 14th

Encl. No. 1. April, 1927, and the enclosed plan.

2. In 1924 the Godown Company approached Government

with a view to obtaining permission to construct a pier to

the north of their existing piers. The matter was

deferred pending the report by Mr. J. Duncan on the Commercial Development of the Port of Hong Kong.

Thereafter

the Strike and Boycott of 1925 intervened. The Company took up the matter again in 1926, but, owing to their being

unable to come to an agreement with the Naval Authorities,

whose use of the Naval Camber to the immediate north would

have been interfered with by the construction of the

proposed new pier, they temporarily abandoned this project,

and proposed instead to erect a pier and godown at the

Railway

SIR P. CUNLIFFE-LISTER, G.B.E., M.C., M.P.,
