of a variable date. The Chairman also read the reply from
Mr. Jacobs in which he indicated that in his view it would be
inadvisable to re-open the Hudson Bay question this year. He
added that if approached next year, the Joint Hull Committee
would consider the matter and would then like to have any
available information which the Department of Marine at Ottawa
might have collected in respect of any year regarding the ice

during the period prior to the 10th August.
The Committee agreed that the Chairman should write again
to Mr. Ferguson informing him that the underwriters were
expecting that the question would be raised next spring ♪ nd
suggesting that in the meantime the Department of Marine at
Ottawa should be considering the nature of the information
which could be supplied to the Joint Hull Committee.
Capt. Edgell stated that the Admiralty Survey Ship "CHALLENGER" was at present carrying out a survey of the
Labrador Coast, and if it would be of any assistance Capt. Edgell
would endeavour to arrange for the "CHALLENGER" to furnish
information regarding ice and weather conditions in that area.
The Committee were pleased to accept this offer and suggested
that the "CHALLENGER" should be specially asked for details (if available) relating to the days at the end of July and the
beginning of August in the neighbourhood of Cape Chidley.
