HONGKONG - CEMENT.

We have the honour to bring to your notice

a statement which has been made to us by one of our

staff who has lately been visiting Hongkong with regard

to the construction of a large water Scheme in that Colony.

important an order should go outside the British Empire,

Consulting Engineers, insisted on the use of British cement,

they would have to prove conclusively that the increased

cost east was warranted.

Whilst we make it a rule never to deprecate the

qualities of the cement manufactured by our Competitors,

we do think that if Japanese cement can be purchased in

Hongkong at a price 50% under that of either cement from

the Green Island Cement Works, or from England, due
