Government. There are now one hundred and fifty-two

such matsheds on the beach, and there is no room for

more. Moreover except for one public shed which has only twelve cubicles, there is no provision for those

persons who are not fortunate enough to own a matshed.

The time has in fact come when the beach should be

more fully developed, and this it is now proposed to

do.

3. The Hong Kong Realty and Trust Company

already owns Rural Building Lot 200, cross hatched 'black' on plan, which is practically identical with the areas 'B' and 'C'. They acquired this lot in

1921 and erected on it six residential bungalows.

The terms on which they hold it do not however permit

of its development in accordance with their present

scheme nor is it large enough for that purpose. The

scheme, stated briefly, is to erect on area 'C' a

large pavilion containing some twenty-four family and

two hundred and forty single bathing boxes, and a

swimming pool for use as a fresh water plunge in the

summer and as a sea water pool in the winter.

On

the first floor there would be a restaurant and dance

floor. On area 'B' would be erected not more than

fifteen houses. Area 'A' would be used for the

erection of staff quarters in connection with the

pavilion on area 'C' and as a parking place for cars.

As part of the scheme it would be necessary to

remove the eighty-seven mat sheds at present in front

of area 'C'. Accommodation for the owners would be

found on the beach at the end of the road shown
