With reference to your letter
No. 92672/32 of the 13th October regarding the
selection of an Engineer Ship Surveyor for service
in the Marine Department, Hong Kong, we have to-day
interviewed Mr. J.G. Charlton, a candidate nominated
by the Board of Trade, and offered him the appointment,
subject to medical examination.
He is considering the offer and has
promised to acquaint us of his decision by Friday
morning. If he accepts, arrangements will be made for
his medical examination, and it is hoped to arrange for
him to sail from London on the 11th November.
The apparent delay in filling the
appointment is due to the withdrawal on the 22nd August
of a candidate previously selected.
